Welcome to Scottish Leisure History
Welcome to Scottish Leisure History, a blog site showcasing new research on the history of leisure and recreation north of the Solway and the Tweed.
We are certainly, however, not limited just to developments within Scotland, and we seek to understand the development of Scottish leisure in British and international contexts.
As you can probably tell from the name of our page, this is an open-ended field. When we say ‘leisure’, that includes sports, popular music, theatre, alcohol, tourism, cinema — any kind of recreation.
So, given our broad focus, we welcome contributors from a variety of disciplines, not just historians. This site will largely be based upon the contributions of guests, so we’d be excited to hear from you.
We suggest that posts can be anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 words. Feel free to include pictures, videos, and other media, so long as you can clear the copyright.
If you wish to contribute, or if you have any enquiries, feel free to get in touch with me at matthew.mcdowell(AT)glasgow.ac.uk.
